Top global broker Lockton has named veteran insurance executive Stuart Wright as the new boss of its managing general agent (MGA).

Wright has been appointed as CEO of Lockton-owned MGA Mapledown Underwriting to drive the next phase of the firm’s growth strategy.

Wright’s appointment stresses Mapledown’s investment in the future, according to company chairman David Smith.

“Stuart brings a wealth of strategic and operational experience, an excellent market reputation and leadership to the team,” Smith said.

“We plan to substantially grow the business over the next five years, with an ambition for Mapledown to operate independently and underwrite business for selected brokers outside of Lockton.”

Wright has held several senior positions during his 38-year career. Before joining Mapledown, he was the CEO and director of WR Berkley Insurance.

According to Bloomberg, Wright also worked at Royal Insurance and Lloyd's as active underwriter of Syndicate 484.

Lockton International CEO Neil Nimmo said Wright is capable of helping the company reach its growth ambitions.

“With our expansion plans, it was important to attract the right leader, with a track record that can enable us to achieve them,” he said.
