Three companies are reportedly interested in acquiring Kwik Fit Insurance Services, the Ageas-owned business that will close down in 2017.

Scottish Parliament member Richard Lyle met with company representatives last week who are “very enthusiastic” about taking on the South Lanarkshire-based insurance office and its workforce, the Daily Record reported.

“I had an excellent meeting with management of a company who are located in Scotland, on Monday. They are very interested in taking over the centre and all the staff,” Lyle told the publication.

“I was very impressed with what they had to say. Another two companies are also interested.”

Lyle said he wanted to “give Christmas back to the workers” by offering hope of a smooth transition to a new employer.

“Things are happening in the background. I don’t want the Kwik Fit workforce to disintegrate,” the Daily Record quoted him as saying.

Ageas first revealed in late November the planned office closure which will affect 521 employees. It had told staff that it was consulting on the shut down by the end of March 2017.

According to a report by the BBC, an Ageas spokeswoman said Kwik Fit has been “under pressure for some time” as a result of changes in the way people buy insurance and on how the personal insurance market now operates.

“We have made a number of attempts to address this but they have not been sufficient to improve performance and address declines in workload,” the BBC quoted the spokeswoman as saying.
