British boxer Dereck ‘Del Boy’ Chisora has had something of a controversial career with many highs and lows – including becoming WBC heavyweight champion in 2012. Now, however, he has suffered another blow – this time, courtesy of his insurance. Or should that be, lack thereof.
Chisora has placed the blame on his insurance broker as he wrestles with the possibility of a driving ban after being caught without insurance.
According to an
Evening Standard report, Chisora, 32, was stopped by police in his Bentley outside Hyde Park in London without insurance or an MOT certificate – indeed he also reportedly did not have a valid driving licence.
Magistrates gave him six points on his licence leading to a six-month ban – but Chisora has now appealed.
According to the report, the defence claims that Chisora’s insurance broker failed to arrange the cover in a paperwork mix-up – and that the boxer has a Zimbabwe driving licence.
Chisora’s appeal will now head to Croydon Crown Court on October 10.
