The two burglars who brutally attacked a senior insurance executive during a raid at his mansion last year have been given a combined 34-year jail term.
Timothy Mardon, 51-year-old division president at Ace Tempest Re, was shot in the thigh and was left for dead when Charlie Simms and Christopher Bergin broke into his house in Essex in February, 2016.
Previous reports said the pair mistook the insurance executive for a drug dealer. According to
BBC, a recording of Mardon’s emergency call was played in court in which a voice can be heard saying: “Where’s the weed at or I will blow your face off.”

BBC reported that Mardon lost a fifth of his blood from his thigh injury. He “would have bled to death” if a police officer had not helped, according to Judge David Turner, who said the raid was ‘every householders’ utter nightmare’.”
Simms, 23, was jailed for 20 years for attempted murder and aggravated burglary while Bergin, 28, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for wounding with intent and aggravated burglary. Both were also convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life
Mardon said in a statement reported by the
BBC: “They will have time to reflect on what they have done and the harm they have caused to my family.”
