Insurance powerhouses Aviva and
Allianz have announced changes to their boardrooms following the release of their financial results for 2016.
Aviva said Malcolm Williamson will retire from its board as senior independent director and as a member of the audit, governance, nomination and remuneration committees. He will be replaced by Glyn Barker, who will resign from his role as audit committee chairman.
The changes to Aviva’s board will take effect after its annual general meeting on May 10.
Meanwhile, at rival firm Allianz, Giulio Terzariol (pictured) has been appointed to the board of management, taking over responsibility for the finance, controlling and risk management division. Previously serving as the insurer’s US finance chief, he now replaces Dieter Wemmer, who leaves the board at the end of 2017.
Former Allianz Australia CEO Niran Peiris has also been added to the board of management, taking over responsibility for the global insurance lines, Anglo markets and Russia from Axel Theis.
Theis will now be responsible for insurance operations in German-speaking countries and in Central and Eastern Europe, succeeding Werner Zedelius whose contract expires at the end of the year.
“With today’s appointments, we continue to internationalize the Allianz SE Board,” says Helmut Perlet, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Allianz SE,” said Helmut Perlet, chairman of the Allianz supervisory board.
