Lloyd’s insurer ArgoGlobal has appointed Jonathan Hamilton as cargo class underwriter to expand its marine cargo team.

Hamilton, who will be responsible for ArgoGlobal’s marine account written in Lloyd’s, will be reporting to Philip Thorpe-Apps, head of marine and energy.

ArgoGlobal said that Hamilton’s appointment is part of the restructuring of its cargo offering to facilitate business expansion.

“Jon is an exceptional underwriter and I am certain this offering will continue to develop under his leadership,” Thorpe-Apps said.

He added that there are growth opportunities in the marine cargo sector even if market conditions are “undoubtedly difficult” at the moment.

“We will be able to realise these opportunities while retaining our focus on the service standards which have been key to our success to date,” he said.

Hamilton, who joined ArgoGlobal as a marine cargo underwriter in 2014, brings more than a decade of experience to his new role.

Before working at ArgoGlobal, Hamilton previously served as senior underwriter for marine cargo and specie at RSA, where he developed and managed a leading international cargo portfolio.

Hamilton also spent over eight years underwriting marine cargo and specie at Hardy.
