Swiss-based insurer Allied World has recruited a senior executive from rival firm Zurich for a top post in its London and European operations.

Allied World Europe has appointed Darren Jacobs as senior vice president for general casualty. He will lead the company’s primary and excess casualty operation in London.

“We have made great strides in enhancing our primary casualty offering, and Darren’s arrival will further increase our expertise,” said Julian James, global markets president at Allied World Europe.

James said Darren will help ensure that Allied World is designing the right products to meet clients’ needs.

“He will have responsibility for building out our international book of business across a complex portfolio of public and employer’s liability risks,” James said.

Jacobs has worked in the insurance industry for almost 25 years and has experience in both company and Lloyd’s markets in London, Western Europe, Scandinavia and the Middle East.

At Zurich, he was previously the head of global corporate, chief underwriting officer and regional casualty manager for the Middle East.

Jacobs also served as chief underwriting officer at Starr Companies, country and regional manager at AIG Europe, and liability manager at Allianz.
