The legal insurance unit of industry giant Allianz has linked up with national law firm Freeths to provide after the event (ATE) insurance to clients.
Under the new partnership, Allianz Legal Protection (ALP) will provide insurance for Freeths’ clinical negligence business to protect customers against the adverse cost risk associated with bringing a claim.
The ATE insurance will cover defendant costs if the claim fails to beat an offer made by one party to settle the dispute in accordance with the rules of court. It will also cover the cost of any unrecovered disbursements such as expert reports and counsel’s fees.

A key benefit of the scheme is the wide delegated authority which allows Freeths the autonomy to issue policies for all its clients.
Commenting on the new partnership, Freeths head of clinical negligence Jane Williams said Allianz and its legal insurance unit “are best placed to adapt their product to meet our customers’ requirements.”
Meanwhile, ALP senior business developer Tony Dyas said that the company is looking forward to work with Freeths during a “very challenging time with the fixed cost proposals expected in 2017.”
“Freeths has a wealth of experience and a proven track record in clinical negligence,” Dyas said.
