Alesco Risk Management Services (Alesco) — the specialist insurance and risk management broker –has today announced that John Smith will be joining as a partner in its energy division.
Smith will provide technical account management and advisory support to Alesco business units and clients in the Middle East, Asia, North America, South America and Australasia; support major onshore and offshore construction projects; raise Alesco’s profile within the UK independent oil and gas sector; and lead the development and marketing of new products. He joins the London office on November 01, 2016 and will report to Derek Thrumble – partner in risk consulting.
“Alesco has an excellent reputation in the energy market and is known for its outstanding claims service and commitment to client management,” commented Smith. “I am looking forward to returning to the broking sector and utilising the knowledge I have accumulated during my career as a buyer to further enhance Alesco’s already strong offering.”
According to a company release, Smith brings a vast amount of experience to the firm. He joins from BG (formerly part of British Gas) where he was head of insurable risk and responsible for managing the BG Captive insurer based in Singapore.
During his time at BG, John worked extensively on the operational and construction insurance programmes for BG assets, primarily in India, Egypt and Trinidad, and the Group’s LNG operations and oil shipping activities. He joined British Gas in 1997 having previously spent 20 years as an insurance broker, latterly as divisional director of energy at Alexander
Howden. John also held roles with J H Minet and Leslie & Godwin (both now part of
Aon).
