Insurance broker and risk adviser Marsh has hired Abbey Sturrock to be part of the company’s political risk and structured credit practice as a senior vice president in the public agency group.

Sturrock will be based in London and will be responsible for delivering advisory and placement services to the public agency sector, including multilateral development banks (MDBs) and export credit agencies (ECAs). Before joining Marsh, Sturrock worked for the Berne Union as a director. Before that, she was an underwriter for Export Development Canada, an export credit agency in Ottawa.

Marsh & McLennan established the public agency group in 2012 to help MDBs, ECAs and other official agencies optimise access to private sector capacity.

“Given today’s volatile political risk environment and the extraordinary demands facing public agencies – especially those from large-scale contracts and investments in emerging markets – MBDs and ECAs are increasingly turning to the private credit and political risk markets to help share risk and diversify their portfolios,” said Julian Macey-Dare, international head of Marsh’s political risk and structured credit practice. “This level of cooperation requires an adviser like Abbey Sturrock with the unique knowledge and skill set of both the public agency and private insurance markets who can help foster collaboration and provide solutions. I’m thrilled she has joined the team.”
