Coromandel residents who suffered land damage due to landslips and flooding in April are being urged to lodge a claim with the Earthquake Commission (EQC) before the deadline.
Event response spokesperson Paul Walsh said there is still plenty of time to file a claim for the flooding caused by ex-Cyclone Debbie and Cyclone Cook in April.
“If your land has suffered landslip, flood damage or silt inundation, and you have fire insurance for home or contents, then you can make a claim with EQC within three months of when the damage occurred,” said Walsh.
“For example, if your property suffered landslip damage on April 05, you have until July 05 to lodge your claim,” he added.
Meanwhile, Walsh said EQC is managing the clean-up in Edgecumbe in cooperation with the Government and the Whakatane District Council due to the nature of land damage.
“Our contractors are focusing on clearing silt and debris that have inundated properties, or that has got underneath houses so the house can be dried out and repaired by the private insurer where required,” he said.
