The Insurance Council of New Zealand (
ICNZ) will be hosting an insurance conference that will explore the major forces and influences that shape the industry and the world.
The conference will be held on November 8, 2017 at the SkyCity Convention Centre, Auckland, and will feature as keynote speaker Alastair Newton, an international advisor and expert on international geo-political issues and their impact on financial markets.
Newton will be speaking on the US-China dynamic for the Asia Pacific and New Zealand under the Trump administration, which will set the tone of volatility and unpredictability themes that will unfold in an in-depth two-hour insurtech session of presentations and a panel.
Presenters will include
KPMG's Steve Graham; Andrew Stead from
IAG's Firemark; and Ralph Ronnenberg, MD of Australia and NZ MunichRe. Convening the session will be Mitchell Pham, head of the FinTechNZ association.
In the afternoon, the focus will be shifted to how companies can be resilient in the face of volatility and uncertainty. There will be presentations by well-known celebrity and psychologist Nigel Latta about consumer attitudes and behaviour; Elizabeth Longworth, former director of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction on the international and local state of resilience; and Dr Erica Seville, author of
Resilient Organisations, about what insurance companies can do to be more resilient.
Presenters will be joined by Mike Mendonca, Wellington City's chief resilience officer.
The conference will conclude with a panel of industry leaders reflecting on what they have learned from the event and what it means for their organisations and the insurance sector.
