Here is yet another reason why insurers should push their clients to secure proper cyber insurance.
WestJet has issued a statement saying that it was made aware that some data of its WestJet Rewards members had been disclosed online by “an undisclosed third party.”
The airline company claims that none of the data leaked contained credit card or banking information.
On its website, WestJet said that it has taken steps to secure the affected systems and has been working closely with the Calgary Police Service and the RCMP cybercrime unit in its investigation of the cyberattack. The company also said that it has informed the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta and the federal Privacy Commissioner.
“The privacy and protection of our guests’ information is a matter we take very seriously and we have worked swiftly and aggressively to resolve this incident,” said WestJet executive vice-president and chief information officer Craig Maccubbin. “WestJet is in the process of contacting affected guests and we deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause.”
