Wawanesa Insurance has committed to continuing its support for the WICC [Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade] Quebec benefit gala, supporting a charity that means a lot to the industry.
A founding member of WICC on a national level, the company has renewed its support as a “commitment sponsor” for WICC Quebec’s Montreal benefit gala event in October, by offering $25,000 over the next three years.
Claude Auclair, vice president of the Quebec region for Wawanesa Insurance and honorary chairperson of the 2017 fundraising gala, said supporting the event was an easy decision.

“Contributing to the communities in which we work and live is very important to us at Wawanesa,” he said.
“We are lucky enough to be able to support some causes, and this one – WICC – was an easy one to pick. It’s something that is directly affecting a lot of employees or company members throughout the industry.”
On a personal level, too, the charity means a lot to Auclair.
“In addition to having a member of my family recently lose the battle to cancer, and another one who, thankfully, just completed cancer treatments with a very positive outlook, several members of our staff are also affected by this terrible disease either directly or indirectly, ʺ he said.
“This is the perfect fit for Wawanesa as it also fulfils one of our company values. We are very happy and proud to renew our support of this very important cause,” Auclair said.
Since its creation in 2008, WICC Quebec has raised over $580,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society, mainly through its annual fundraising gala. The Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade was launched in 1996 in Ontario by a group of insurance industry professionals to raise money for research and awareness initiatives developed by the Canadian Cancer Society.
