The
Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) will be touring Quebec as part of its earthquake preparedness campaign.
The campaign will feature a mobile quake simulator called the Quake Cottage, allowing participants to experience a 30-second quake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale.

“Through this simulation, we want to explain to people that they can expect to face lots of upheaval if a major quake were to occur, and they must learn to protect themselves” said IBC Communications and Public Affairs director Pierre Babinsky.
The campaign – in its second year – will take place in a number of Quebec cities and at shopping centers across the region, between May 06 and June 04, 2017. The tour will visit Quebec City, Montreal, Trois-Rivières, Sainte-Adèle, Dorval, La Malbaie, Gatineau, Galeries d’Anjou shopping mall, and Laval, in that order.
The Canadian Red Cross has also pledged its support of the earthquake awareness campaign.
On average, Eastern Quebec experiences nearly 450 quakes each year; the province as a whole is likely to see a major quake in the near future.
