iA Financial Group has announced that president and CEO Yvon Charest has been appointed as an Officer to the Order of Canada.
A release said that Charest was invested into the Order by His Excellency, the Right Honorable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada. The ceremony was held at Rideau Hall on August 25.
To coincide with the appointment, the Governor General issued a release that highlighted iA’s “remarkable growth” under Charest’s leadership and how it helped contribute to the country’s economy. The release also discusses Charest’s philanthropic activities and how he involved himself with numerous charitable organizations and encouraged fellows in the business community to follow suit.
Charest is not the only insurance executive to join the order as of late – last year, former president and CEO of Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Gregory Hanson was chosen as one of the Order’s newest Members. Hanson was recognized for his support of non-profit groups and his current role as chairman of two such organizations.
Gregory S. Belton, the executive chairman of
HUB International Toronto, was also appointed a member in 2016.
