Whether you’re the proprietor of the massive feat of architecture that is the Baitul Islam Mosque in Maple, Ontario or one of the many storefront Islamic Centres throughout Canada, you need insurance.
Mosque insurance, to be specific.
One provider of this specialized service is the Canadian Aligned Insurance offering coverage to both structures with towering minarets and ones with street access.
“We thought it was important to create some material and negotiate a product that’s specific to that segment’s needs,” Andrew Clark, President and CEO of Aligned Insurance said. “It’s just another segment in the faith-based space.”
Clark explained that faith-based clients already made up a significant portion of their clients and moving into the Mosque insuring business was only natural.
Aligned also covers churches, temples and other religious organizations.
Clark said there were occasionally language barriers but he found them easy to overcome and if brokers wanted to break into the Mosque insurance field there’s no one successful strategy.
“Understanding the needs of the organization on a case-by-case basis, providing options and choices around product, that’s kind of a transferable principle that works in this space as well,” Clark said.
Loss of income, crime and general liability coverage, physical and sexual abuse coverage are all covered under Mosque insurance.
Clark rose up through the ranks of
Aon and
Marsh before setting up his own business that now has four major offices in Canada.
