Burns & Wilcox is this year’s recipient of the Managing General Agency (MGA) of the Year Award from the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA National) in the US.
The award was presented on September 15 at a gala ceremony that coincided with the PIA’s board of directors meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
“Burns & Wilcox—a flagship of H.W. Kaufman Group—is a leading global wholesale insurance broker and underwriting manager and has been a pillar of the insurance community for many years,” PIA national secretary and assistant treasurer Dennis Kuhnke said as he presented the award that evening. “Burns & Wilcox serves retail brokers and agents of all sizes—and with no retail operations, it never competes against brokers and agents. Importantly, Burns & Wilcox is a privately-owned company that does not have to answer to Wall Street or private equity firms.”

“Its standards of service, speed, depth of market relationships, and outstanding talent are unsurpassed in the specialty insurance sector,” Kuhnke added.
The MGA of the Year Award “recognizes outstanding achievement in furthering the interests of agents, a commitment to the agency system, and successful efforts to create a better business environment for professional insurance agents,” a release explained.
“For nearly 50 years, Burns & Wilcox has consistently grown year-over-year based on a strategic mindset that relationships and service are the most important elements of insurance,” commented Burns & Wilcox chairman, president, and CEO Alan Jay Kaufman. “The excellent service standards, expertise, competitive drive, and leadership of each member of our team is invigorating, and it is a point of pride to have these talents recognized by The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents.”
Also during the same ceremony, Auto-Owners Insurance was presented with the Company Award of Excellence and Klinger Insurance Group the Excellence in Social Media Award.
