SLE Group, which includes underwriting agencies
SLE Worldwide Australia, Mobius Underwriting Australasia and Pacific Underwriting, has announced the appointment of a new chief underwriting officer.
Tony Carter has been appointed to the role following more than five years with the company as a risk analyst and statistician.
Carter will now be responsible for compliance, production pipelines, risk selection, policy conditions and premium pricing alongside responsibilities education and reporting.
SLE Group managing director,
Brad French, said that Carter’s promotion brings an experienced industry professional to the group that will help build relationships with clients.
“Tony has built a wealth of knowledge and experience in his time with SLE Group and we recognise that by promoting him into a new role that embodies his overarching function of liaising with clients and brokers, and our security providers in Australia and internationally,” French said.
Carter holds a PhD in public health alongside a Master’s degree in biostatistics and epidemiology and French believes that this academic background, alongside years of industry experience, will prove vital in the new executive position.
“Tony has a unique blend of academic and analytical skills, which is vital to this new role,” French said.
“All underwriters across the group will report to him, enabling him to analyse short and long-tail portfolios to ensure sustainable underwriting profits; understand and manage broker relationships; improve internal and external reporting standards; and enable underwriters to determine their risk appetites by identifying emerging trends and monitoring identified losses in sub-groups of risk.”
