QBE has announced two permanent appointments for its business in Australia.
The Australia-based global insurer has announced that Jon Fox has been made executive general manager of claims in Australia and New Zealand on a permanent basis, while Andrew Corbett will take on the role of general manager of Elders Insurance permanently.
Fox had occupied the interim EGM position since September, when he moved from the positon at the top of Elders Insurance. Meanwhile, Corbett had been leading Elders in an interim capacity for 10 months. Both take on their permanent roles immediately.
Throughout his career, Fox has worked extensively in claims, having previously held positions with GIO,
Suncorp and AMP General and, during his time at Elders, led the formation of the national claims function of the firm.
“During his time as interim EGM of claims, Jon has taken steps to improve our claims performance and is reinvigorating our claims management approach,” Pat Regan, CEO of Australia and New Zealand operations at QBE said.
In 2016, the insurer experienced what Regan called “an unacceptable increase” in attritional claims, with the New south Wales CTP scheme, increased claims in trade credit, and premium pricing pressures all making an impact.
In its last round of results, the insurer announced a 340 basis point improvement in its attritional claims ratio as the business looks to make $200 million of claims savings by 2018.
Corbett meanwhile, was regional manager of Elders Insurance for nearly seven years before taking on the acting GM role for the business.
