Claims management firm Gallagher Bassett (GB) has announced a partnership with Victoria Police designed to improve prevention and management of psychological injuries.

The partnership has seen the two organisations host a series of workshops throughout the state which are designed to connect police and experts in psychological injury management and instil best practice processes for managing psychological injury.

Thus far, workshops have been run in Warrnambool, Bendigo, Mornington, Traralgon, Bairnsdale, Wangaratta and Mildura.

Speakers at the events have included Dr Peter Cotton, clinical and organisational psychologist; Dr Foti Blaher, senior police medical officer; and Dr Alexandra West, senior police psychologist.
Aidan Brophy, GB’s general manager in Victoria, said the workshops have provided interaction and engagement with stakeholders.

“The workshops have been a warm introduction to doctors and psychologists on how Victoria Police is managing mental injuries,” Brophy said.

“These sessions have been a platform to share knowledge, network and demonstrate the commitment by all to improve treatment and intervention strategies for psychological claims.”

Education is being provided around psychological injuries, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), with additional guidance on how to access resources to support a safe return to work.
