A major insurer is urging customers whose home and contents have been damaged by Cyclone Debbie to lodge their claims as soon as possible, as it reminds them to prioritise their safety as they assess the damage.
To help impacted policyholders,
Suncorp has its customer response team on standby to lend their assistance as soon as they can access affected areas; and is also preparing to increase its call centre capacity to take on an increased number of calls.
“We have started receiving claims from the affected region. People don’t need to be at home or have a copy of their policy to lodge their claims,” said Suncorp spokesperson Josh Cooney.

“The sooner you contact us the sooner we can start the claim process to ensure the quickest possible path to recovery. If you need emergency make-safe work completed, we can arrange it for you.
“We are expecting a large volume of claims to be lodged and while we are increasing our call centre capacity, wait times may be longer than normal.
“We can organise temporary accommodation for customers whose homes have been severely damaged and we can provide cash payments of up to $2,000 to make emergency purchases.”
The Suncorp spokesperson also urged customers to stay safe as they inspect the damage.
“Your safety is the number one priority, so please take every precaution,” he added. “Some homes and properties will potentially have exposed electric wires, broken glass, and leaking gas and wastewater.
“Take care and do not enter your home unless it is absolutely safe.”
