Distinguished businessman Stephen Lee Ching Yen, chairman of cooperative insurer NTUC Income and three other firms, has been appointed to the board of director of Temasek Holdings, effective July 01.
Aside from NTUC Income, Lee is also chairman of SIA Engineering, Shanghai Commercial Bank (Hong Kong), and Tripartite Alliance. He is currently serving as managing director of Commercial & Savings Bank Ltd (Taipei) and GMT Investments. From 2006 to 2016, he was chairman of Singapore Airlines.
He is also part of the Council of Presidential Advisers, as well as the NTUC-ARU Board of Trustees.
Previously, Lee was president of the Singapore National Employers Federation from 1988-2014, chairman of International Enterprise Singapore, formerly known as TDB, from 1995-2002, chairman of PSA International from 2002-2005, and chairman of Singapore Business Federation from 2002-2008.
Lee is a recipient of many awards, both domestic and international. He received the Singapore Public Service Star in 1998, the Singapore Distinguished Service Order in 2006, Beijing's Friendship Awards to Foreign Experts in 2007, and the Distinguished Comrade of Labour in 2015.
In 2015, he was given one of Singapore’s highest state distinctions, the Order of Nila Ulama (First Class). He also served as a nominated member of parliament from 1994-1997.
