Sompo Canopius AG, a subsidiary of
Sompo Holdings of Japan, has appointed Stephen Pike as credit and political risk underwriter, effective October 2. He will report to Bernie de Haldevang, global head of specialty at
Sompo Canopius.
Before joining the specialty insurer, Pike was deputy head of specialty commodity finance at from ED&F MAN Capital Markets, dealing in global trade finance in various European, South American, African, and Asian markets. Prior to that, he managed the European credit fund of Cyrus Capital. He began his finance career at Merrill Lynch, where he gained experience in mergers and acquisitions and leverage finance.
The credit and political risk team, headed by Will Clark, was formed in June this year.
Commenting on the appointment, de Haldevang said: “Stephen has a reputation for being able to structure, analyse and assimilate complex deals across multiple sectors and geographies. He understands not only what is needed to bring in new business across four continents, but what it’s like to be a consumer of our products.
“This insight and expertise, combined with that of the rest of the team and in particular Tim Phillips, who joins at the end of August, will allow us to develop stronger knowledge-based partnerships and enable us to better service, expand and tailor our offerings to this important client base.”
