Award-winning cybersecurity specialist Professor Robert Deng of Singapore Management University was granted the
AXA Chair Professorship of Cybersecurity on Monday. Deng is one of the six researchers selected for this grant for the Data & Technology risks cluster under the
AXA Research Fund and the only one from Singapore.
As AXA Chair Professor of Cybersecurity, Deng will receive €800,000 in funding over eight years to conduct research on creating a unified framework to protect data in the new environment. The research could lead to the creation of new security models, algorithms, protocols, and analysis techniques that will advance the science of data security and privacy.

Deng graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the National University of Defense Technology in China. Afterwards, he earned his masters and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
The AXA Research Fund is the science philanthropy initiative of AXA Group, which aims to empower researchers in dealing with key societal challenges and managing risks in several areas: life & health, data & technology, climate & environment, and finance, insurance, & regulation.
Since its inauguration in 2007, the AXA Research Fund has supported 531 research undertakings in 34 countries, providing a total of €166 million in funding.
