Singapore-based insurer NTUC Income has launched a mobile app for motor insurance policyholders, allowing them to report accidents through their smartphones.

According to NTUC Income, the app will be of great benefit to policyholders unable to beat the 24-hour deadline to report an accident in person.

If a motorist is unable to report within the allotted time, they may lose their no-claim discount upon renewal of their motor insurance policy.

The app will also allow policyholders to request assistance from Orange Force, the insurer’s 24/7 accident response team and a selection of partner auto repair shops.

Aside from verifying the date, time, and location of the accident, users will have to submit photographs of the accident via the app. Step-by-step instructions for the accident reporting process will be available, with the various information and photographs to be submitted clearly detailed.

NTUC Income reminded users that the app cannot be used to report accidents where motorists or passengers have been injured. In such cases, the policyholder must file a report with the police and report the accident to the insurer personally.

The app is now available for Android-based devices, with an iOS version expected to be available next month.
