Munich Re has appointed Brian Jinzenji as chief executive officer and representative for its
Japan office, alongside its moves to expand into the non-life segment.
Jinzenji’s appointment is effective July 01, simultaneous with Munich Re Japan’s transformation into a composite reinsurer. He has been with Munich Re since April 2017, and was previously president and CEO of
AXA Assistance Japan, as well as head of commercial lines at AIU Insurance.
He is the first Japanese CEO for the company’s operations in the country.
The establishment of a composite office in the market is part of Munich Re’s push to grow its share and play a larger role in the property and casualty re/insurance sector. Before the opening of the composite office, the company only had a service office in
Japan, which conducted marketing and sales efforts, but the P&C underwriting was done from the head office in
Germany.
