The Insurance Authority (IA) of Hong Kong has issued a notice about a deceptive website that falsely presents itself as an official platform for Newco Insurance Services Limited (Newco), a legitimate insurance provider in Hong Kong.

The website in question, “https://www.newcoinsur.com/”, is not connected to Newco, as officially stated by the company. This issue has been forwarded to the Hong Kong Police Force for additional examination.

Members of the public who have provided personal details or conducted insurance-related transactions on this site are encouraged to contact Newco immediately at [email protected] and to file a report with the Hong Kong Police Force.

To confirm the credentials of insurance intermediaries, the public should access the Register of Licensed Insurance Intermediaries found on the IA's website.

Insurance Authority takes action against insurance agent

The warning follows the IA's decision to ban an insurance agent for forgery and impersonation.

The industry watchdog found that the agent falsified a client's signature on five mandatory provident fund (MPF) transfer applications over three years and orchestrated the client's impersonation by his colleagues to illegally obtain private account information.
