Ecclesiastical Insurance has named Adam Wright (pictured above) as its new property underwriting director for the UK, as the firm moves to enhance its underwriting team and support business expansion.

Wright transitions to this role after a six-year tenure as property underwriting manager at Aviva. He succeeds Paul Messer, who has transitioned to a group-wide role aimed at enhancing underwriting capabilities across Ecclesiastical's various insurance operations.

With over three decades of experience in underwriting, Wright's career has spanned significant roles in both the Lloyd’s and company markets. His previous positions include stints at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance and MS Amlin, as well as substantial periods with Aviva and RSA.

On joining Ecclesiastical, part of the Benefact Group, Wright shared his enthusiasm for his new role.

“Through all the conversations I’ve had, it’s clear this is a different kind of business. What shines through is the brilliant culture of teamwork and collaboration, and its unique purpose to contribute to the greater good of society. I am excited about the ambition, beliefs, and purpose of the company, and I’m looking forward to helping grow the business over the coming years,” he said.

This appointment comes at a time when Ecclesiastical is pursuing aggressive growth, with the insurer aiming to double its business size in the coming years while expanding its contributions to charitable causes.

Following its recent foray into the Leisure sector, Ecclesiastical also confirmed that plans are underway to enter additional markets this year.

Marc Lewis, Ecclesiastical UK’s underwriting director, expressed confidence in Wright’s capability to drive the insurer’s ambitious growth plans.

“I’m delighted that Adam has decided to join the team at Ecclesiastical Insurance,” Lewis said. “He has a vast amount of experience in the UK property market and will undoubtedly bolster our efforts in establishing a world-class underwriting proposition. His strong leadership skills and expertise will provide a positive impact on our business moving forward.”

“We have a unique proposition at Ecclesiastical, combining specialist expertise with market-leading service, alongside a purpose to contribute to the greater good of society and I know Adam is excited to join us. I’d like to thank Paul Messer for his service to the team, where he has been instrumental in the success of our property book,” Lewis said.

Wright's appointment also follows the recent promotion of Laura Carter to customer segment director.
